Luminaria01 – Madrid + Info

40 artists from all over the world show their works at two food markets in the Usera district of Madrid, which is one of the areas of the city with the largest immigrant population. The idea behind Luminaria01 is to bring art out of the classic institutions into public spaces to a wider audience.

Each one of us was given an empty market stand in which to create our artworks. I was given a former pastry stand in which I displayed fake pastries which I made from sand and soil. Each “pastry” had its own price, which were actual land prices from all over the world. I also used historic prices to demonstrate the trend of the property bubble in Spain.

Many thanks to founders and curators Magaly Briand and Antonio Lozano for inviting me.
