La Casa Encendida – Madrid + Info

La Casa Encendida is a very special social and cultural center in the middle of Madrid. People of all ages and from all stata of society come here for exhibitions, lectures, performances, workshops, courses, a media library, film screenings. Admission is free. Thousands of people came to see my “ANONYMIZATION” exhibition. Many thanks to curator Pedro Rubio and Carolina Belén Martínez of La Casa Encendida for giving me this opportunity and for all of their hard work.

In the middle of the space at La Casa Encendida we built a small tower giving information related to the photos – facts on the social, environmental and economic impacts of urban sprawl. I made the base into a kind of installation utilizing construction materials related to the exhibition. The other installation element we used was a construction safety fence which we hung from the wall. There were a stack of cards and a pen. Many hundreds of people ended up leaving drawings and their words about the crisis in Spain, the construction boom, urban sprawl, politics, the environment and whatever was on their mind after seeing the work.
