The Fulbright Commission of Spain commissioned me to make this short documentary in celebration of their 60th Anniversary. 8,787 Spanish and U.S. American grantees have crossed the Atlantic in cultural and educational exchange. The aim of the program is to create peace through mutual understanding.
We filmed current and former grantees, Spanish and American, in Madrid, New York and Boston. It was a great honor and privilege to have met the people in the film who are all very humble and very ambitious. Everyone I met wants to work toward improving the state of the world, from researching for cures to cancer and Alzheimer’s, to the resolution of international conflicts surrounding climate change, to teaching, to opening society’s minds and breaking down prejudices on sexual orientation and culture, to making art related to tensions around social class.
